Zurab started composing and improvising on piano in his teenage years, on the grand piano of his grandmother, Ekaterine (Gulnara) Avalishvili. He was inspired by her piano improvisation and later by the works of Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, and Strauss, some of which he studied with a private piano teacher for two years.

Having very poor pitch, Zurab’s approach to music shifted toward exploration of structure—something he found similar to doing mathematics. Sometimes his music resembles thinking itself: a sound of reasoning, where each phrase or motif is a hypothesis or an inference, and each silence is a moment of introspection.

Other times, his music conveys the essence of emotional awareness. The spontaneity of improvisation is meant to capture human creativity in its raw form.

In recent TikTok live improvisations, Zurab often plays with the intention of helping listeners relax. Sound becomes a tool for stillness of mind and soul, helping the listener anchor inner peace. Some of his recent releases are recordings of these live compositions.
